    Thu 20 Nov 2014

The "Super Heroes" of Barley Croft School! A fantastic day when we dressed up as super heroes to support Children in Need.

Thanks to the baking and selling of cakes, dressing up and magnificent face painting we exceeded our target once again.

An enormous sum of £289.33 was raised by the children and staff of Barley Croft Primary School.

    Thank you

    Love Pudsey x

  • Black Country Living Museum

    Tue 04 Nov 2014

On Friday 31st October, year 3 /4 had a fantastic day out at the Black Country Living Museum as a launch to their new Victorians connected curriculum topic. During the day the children ate chips from the Victorian chip shop, had a lesson in the school room, went in genuine Victorian buildings (listening and asking very intelligent questions!) spent their money in the sweet-shop, played games in the street and had great fun on the fairground!

Everybody who met them said how well-behaved and well-mannered they were. They were a real credit to Barley Croft School.

  • Map Madness

    Wed 02 Jul 2014

On Friday 13th June the whole school took part in Map Madness Day! We kick-started the day with a fabulous assembly. Tom Mottram told a captivating story involving love letters, a glowing map, a dinosaur bone and even a bit of Elvis chucked in! Everybody then went back to their own classes and continued the rest of the day going mad over maps!

Luckily, the weather was beautiful, which meant that lots of things were happening outside all day long!!! There were treasure hunts involving dinosaur bones, following maps and collecting letters in KS1. In KS2 there was timed orienteering with extremely expensive and exciting equipment with a visitor from Cambridge University! Meanwhile, inside, there was map drawing, castle making, beebots travelling on maps, reading stories and even a visit to Baltimore by year 5 and 6! (Sort of!)

It was a brilliant day with a lot of learning about maps and fun happening all around the school.

Fifteen of our children went to Saffron Lane sports centre this week to compete in various athletic sports against other children from other schools.

The children had a fantastic day and between them won three gold medals and six silver medals.

A huge well done and congratulations to all the children that took part and won medals.

They performed a variety of spring dances and talked about the history of how Morris dancing was evolved.

  • Day 4 of The Spark Children Arts Festival- Indo Jazz

    Thu 22 May 2014

To finish of what has been a brilliant week of shows and plays today the Spark Festival has provided us with something a bit different.

Our years 3,4, 5 and 6 children have met Arun Ghosh who is a British-Asian clarinettist, composer and music educator. Arun offered the children a unique opportunity to experience brilliant and passionate music making, through performance and lively discussions.

Arun's music filled the school hall with some superb music of which the children enjoyed accompanying Arun with some sound effects.

The children had the opportunity to learn about the instruments and answer various questions. Some of the children showed real passion for his music and were rocking along to the beat of Arun's music.
