  • Sing a song of Maytime....

    Today our assembly celebrated the traditional songs and dances which herald the coming of spring. Jasleen was our May queen attended by Freya.

     

    Key stage 2, Shereen, Khevanie, Elle, Ali, Renee, Grace, Michael and Charlie performed some country dancing and the final finale came with the Leicester Morris Dancers.

     

    They performed a variety of spring dances and talked about the history of how Morris dancing was evolved.

  • Day 4 of The Spark Children Arts Festival- Indo Jazz

    To finish of what has been a brilliant week of shows and plays today the Spark Festival has provided us with something a bit different.

     

    Our years 3,4, 5 and 6 children have met Arun Ghosh who is a British-Asian clarinettist, composer and music educator. Arun offered the children a unique opportunity to experience brilliant and passionate music making, through performance and lively discussions.

     

    Arun's music filled the school hall with some superb music of which the children enjoyed accompanying Arun with some sound effects.

     

    The children had the opportunity to learn about the instruments and answer various questions. Some of the children showed real passion for his music and were rocking along to the beat of Arun's music.


     



  • Day 3 of The Spark Children Arts Festival- The Frog & the Princess

    Today our years 1 and 2 children watched a poignant and fun puppetry re-telling of the traditional Brother's Grimm Frog Price tale.

     

    The children found out what happens when a Princess deems a Frog unworthy of being her friend, just because of what he is?

     

    At the end of the show the children got the opportunity to meet the puppets which they all thoroughly enjoyed.

  • Day 2 of The Spark Children Arts Festival- I, Peaseblossom

    Day 2 of the Sparks Children's Arts Festival.

    Today our years 3,4,5 and 6 children have watched I, Peaseblossom. The productions a unique interpretation of Shakespeare's classic text, A Midsummer's Night Dream.

     

    All the children thoroughly enjoyed the play. They were able to listen to the story through the eyes of one of the characters destined to watch the main action from the side-lines. 

  • The Spark Festival presents Yummmmm!

    The Spark Festival has arrived at Barley Croft!

    Today our reception children along with our years 1 and 2 children have watched a dance theatre show that celebrates all that is messy at meal times!

     

    Yummmm! is a celebration of food seen through children's eyes using dance, live music, quirky design and some amusing eating utensils. A highly imaginative production where tables can dance, plates spin and the children have the chance to join in with the dinner time rituals!

     

    After the show there were activities were the children were able to join in and play with their own utensils.

  • The Women’s Tour

    On the 8th May 2014 fourteen of our children and staff/ parents went to Hinckley to see the world’s top female cyclists racing through Hinckley on route to Bedford as part of stage 2 of their competition.

    The children got to meet Lucy Garner who is part of the Great British cycling team. She is 19 years old and from Cosby. The children also got to watch the riders warm up and prepare for their race. There were lots of TV and radio crew there covering the race, the children were lucky enough to be interviewed by BBC Radio 2.

    The trip has been a really good opportunity to show the children that cycling is a well-recognised sport for men and women and has many followers and supporters. All the children that went on the trip have passed there biking ability level 2.


     



  • Hooty owls visit Barley Croft Primary

    On the 1st May 2014 we were lucky enough to have Hoots Owls come to visit our Year 1 and 2 children. The children were able to reinforce the learning they had done in the classroom by listening to a talk all about owls, their habitat, what they eat and how they catch their food. The children also had the opportunity to hold the owls which allowed them to see for themselves how soft the owls were to touch.
