On the 8th May 2014 fourteen of our children and staff/ parents went to Hinckley to see the world’s top female cyclists racing through Hinckley on route to Bedford as part of stage 2 of their competition.
The children got to meet Lucy Garner who is part of the Great British cycling team. She is 19 years old and from Cosby. The children also got to watch the riders warm up and prepare for their race. There were lots of TV and radio crew there covering the race, the children were lucky enough to be interviewed by BBC Radio 2.
The trip has been a really good opportunity to show the children that cycling is a well-recognised sport for men and women and has many followers and supporters. All the children that went on the trip have passed there biking ability level 2.
On the 1st May 2014 we were lucky enough to have Hoots Owls come to visit our Year 1 and 2 children. The children were able to reinforce the learning they had done in the classroom by listening to a talk all about owls, their habitat, what they eat and how they catch their food. The children also had the opportunity to hold the owls which allowed them to see for themselves how soft the owls were to touch.
The school allotment has undergone some amazing changes in the last few weeks. We gratefully welcomed nine Walkers and PepsiCo employees to help with the transformation.
They worked really hard during the three days that they were here with us at Barley Croft. During this time they did lots of cleaning and tidying, put the shed up, cleared the pond and put educational signs up. They improved the pathways and put a new roof on the greenhouse for us.
We are all really pleased with the work that has been done on the allotment and are looking forward to seeing the children and their families enjoy spending time in and around the allotment.
